She also informed that the title of this programme Book Nook: Words and Worlds was given by the research Scholar of N.V.K.S.D. He congratulated all the faculties of N.V.K.S.D College of Education, Attoor and also all the members of AIRIO and CTEF, Kerala and Tamilnadu Chapters. He said that a book review is the critical analysis of a book to help others decide whether they should read the particular book or not, analysing the positive and negative components of the book, analysing the strengths and weaknesses of the book and discussing major ideas and characters. So the readers will receive an idea as to whether or not they should read and enjoy the book in question. Next, the presidential address was delivered by Dr R. Mukundan, President, AIRIO, Tamilnadu Chapter. He congratulated every person who took the initiative to make this programme work successfully. He also added that Dr Geetha Janet Vitus is the right person to review the book Inclusive Education Strategies: A Text Book as she is a great educationist and researcher in the field of Special Education. He added that the resource person will enlighten the participants here. He reminded us of Dr Maria Montessori who was an educationist as well as a physician for all children with no exception for special children. He concluded by informing the initiatives taken through the National Education Policy for Inclusive Education.
Then, it came the time to review the book in question. The resource person, Dr. Geetha Janet Vitus, reviewed the book Inclusive Education Strategies: A Textbook. She said that this book would have been very useful in delivering her earlier talks on Inclusive education strategies conducted at various schools if she had found this book earlier. The book has 244 pages without acknowledgement and includes 15 chapters. The book compiles the works of various authors who are experts in inclusive education. The book was found to be easily readable as the contents were neatly arranged. She often heard school teachers saying that they need more novel and new methods to increase students’ inclusion in schools. This book is made with the contribution of UNICEF and Armenia University, University of Minnesota. UNICEF funded this Contribution. The situation in Armenia on inclusive learning is discussed in Chapter 1. It discusses the special children turning into youth and their needs. According to UNICEF, if all children are included in the classroom then it becomes an inclusive classroom. Every classroom should have a support teacher to handle the special child. But it is lacking everywhere so a teacher finds it difficult to handle these children. This book gives us awareness as to how the family can support children to learn in school. Every chapter is given by experts after proper experimentation. The concluding chapter deals with all strategies followed in all chapters. Chapter 2 deals with the universal design of learning. As students’ needs are diverse, a design should be found which should be a universal design for inclusive learning. This design plans to give accessibility to every child with or without disability. It concludes with some tips for teachers. A beautiful glossary is at the end of each chapter. She also discusses briefly the third chapter. Towards the last part, more reflective questions are found. Strategies given here will create a concrete success as all the tips given here are evidence-based. She concluded by suggesting this book for all teacher Educators to handle the classes effectively. Felicitations were given by Prof. Dr. Rajeswari K., Head, Centre for Research and Development, N.V.K.S.D. College of Education, Attoor. As concluding remarks, a vote of thanks was proposed by Prof Giby Gee Varghese, Global Treasurer, AIRIO.

REPORT ON WEBINAR SERIES BOOK NOOK: WORDS & WORLDS 4
(November 25, 2023, on Google Meet at 7:30 pm)
The fourth of the Webinar Series on Book Nook: Words and Worlds was held on November 25, 2023, at 7:30 pm on Google Meet. The programme was anchored by Nisha M S, Full-Time Research Scholar, N.V.K.S.D. College of Education, Attoor. She welcomed Dr. P Sheela, Librarian, NVKSD College of Education, Attoor to welcome all the chief guests and the resource person of the programme, Dr K Y Benedict, Principal, Mother Teresa College of Education, Kozhikode and also the Chairman CTEF (South Zone). The resource person reviewed the book Research Design – Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Method Approaches by John W Creswell and J David Creswell - 6th Edition. He started explaining using PowerPoint slides on the book Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Methods Approaches covering the three approaches — qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods. He explained that this educational book is informative as well as illustrative and is equally beneficial for students, teachers and researchers. There are two parts of the book - Part I consists of steps for developing a research proposal and Part II explains how to develop a research proposal or write a research report. A summary is given at the end of every chapter that helps the reader to recapitulate the ideas. Moreover, writing exercises and suggested readings at the end of every chapter are useful for the readers. Chapter 1 opens with a definition of research approaches and the author gives his opinion that the selection of a research approach is based on the nature of the research problem, researchers’ experience and the audience of the study. The author defines qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research. A distinction is made between quantitative and qualitative research approaches. Chapter 2 is about the review of the literature. The chapter starts with the identification of the research topic and argues that literature review has a central position in research. The author suggests where to place the literature review in a study. This chapter is a good guide for novice researchers as it suggests how to review literature, locate a research study in the existing body of literature and find a gap in previous research. Chapter 3 gives a complete definition of ‘theory’ and its use and forms in quantitative research. The chapter explicitly deals with the use of theory in quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods and transformative worldviews or paradigms. Chapter 4 deals with the ethical issues, the structure of a proposal and writing strategies. Different formats for writing a research proposal are presented in detail. Ethical issues in qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research are explained in detail. A summary at the end of the chapter well elaborates the key suggestions for writing a research proposal. Chapter 5 highlights the importance of writing an introduction to a proposal and suggests how an abstract is written in a research study. The five components of an introduction are all that a new researcher needs to start with. The chapter also suggests how a research problem is written and how gaps can be found in previous studies.
